today 9/24/07

We are in Pennsylvania, Chester and Bucks counties, so this is out of of order and no pictures -- we forgot to recharge the battery! Hmmm, maybe we need a backup?

No worries: Jon took pictures of the pictures, posted here. Not as crisp, but perhaps it will help stimulate your imagination.

Today was just a perfect day. We went to Longwood Gardens. Wow! Pierre Dupont, you know, the chemical Duponts, created this garden that I can hardly describe to you, it is so fabulous. ( I should have brought at Thesaurus). Superb grounds that include fountains, lakes, amazing trees, rose atrium, wisteria, Italian water garden; an elaborate, ornate fountain display; and a humongous conservatory.

In the conservatory are a full range of plants from desert to rain forest. You can not imagine the water lily garden. Along with hardy lilies are the most amazing platter lilies that are three to six feet in diameter. I can not begin to tell you how surprising and stunning they were.

Within the conservatory is a huge, world class pipe organ which is currently under repair, a ballroom, orchids, cactus, bonsai, and flowers of every color and description. Soon there will be a Chrysanthemum display and at Christmas this would be the place to see. What a joy it was to be there!

Next we found another Wyeth Museum. This is Wyeth territory, their home, in addition to the Maine coast where Andrew painted over several summers. It was our very good fortune that Andrew Wyeth's granddaughter lead a tour of the museum today. She was a delight; trendy, bright and energetic. It was good to see someone dressed in something other than RV wear! The museum includes works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth, and a few others, family members and local pals. A most impressive, evocative gallery, with a wonderful range of styles. Check out Andrew's work on Nuryev!

My Mom will be happy to hear we found a Trader Joe's in nearby Delaware! Dinner fixings but no wine sold at the store. One must go to a liquor store in Delaware to buy wine. Off we went and another case is stored in the van. Dinner of chicken breast, baby sweet potatoes, green beans, avocado salad and a chocolate bar. What will tomorrow bring? We talked of the beauty and bounty of this country. Every day has brought us unexpected pleasures. The country around here is exceptionally gorgeous, with tree filled landscapes, green grassy pastures, and beautiful old stone buildings. History surrounds us, nature embraces us.
